Protecting Your Children’s Privacy

Protecting your children’s privacy is perhaps the most important reason in the world to be familiar with the steps necessary to prevent problems with privacy invasion. While children are not necessarily targets of identity theft they are overwhelmingly susceptible to becoming targets of more insidious crimes which start with the perpetrator learning the identity of your child. Understanding how chat rooms and email work can help parents teach children to behave safely online. While there are many programs and procedures you can use to track the activity of your children it is most important to educate them about the dangers of chatting online when you don’t know who they are talking to or who is reading what they say. Take similar precautions when your child has a cell phone or text messaging service. Online Fourms and Chat Rooms Does your child understand that listing their real name, address, telephone number or information like the school they attend can be potentially dangerous if the wrong person decides to get in contact with them? Do they realize that although the forum or chat room is SUPPOSED to be for children there are possibly adults pretending to be children in order to take advantage of them? While you do not want to unduly frighten your children it would be more terrifying if you found out that they had been in contact with a pedophile and they did not know how to tell you about it. Give them rules. Here are some you may want to discuss with your child(ren): 1) NEVER give out your name, address, telephone number or picture. NEVER agree to meet someone you met online without your parent’s approval. 2) REMEMBER you are speaking in a public area – other people may read what you write. 3) REFUSE to enter a private chat room. These rooms are closed off to the public and your child may be lured in by an adult trying to seduce them. 4) Encourage them to TELL you what goes on. Just as you would monitor who they spend time with after school or what TV programs they watch – you want them to feel comfortable telling you about their online friends. What can you do to prevent identity theft? While talking with friends about sports, fashion or other interests may be fun it is not wholly productive for children to spend hours online chatting. It is also more likely that they will investigate sites or forums that are unsuitable for children. Curiosity may lure them in over their heads. What can you do to prevent identity theft? How Does It Podcasting Work?

The method of podcasting is actually very simple. First, a podcaster (i.e. a podcast publisher) would create an audio content, usually in mp3 or mp4 format, and then have it uploaded to a server. The podcast is then published as a news feed in either RSS, XML or Atom format. The audience may then subscribe to a particular podcast they like using a news-feed aggregator, which in turn updates them whenever new episodes are released. The subscribers may then listen to or watch the podcast at their own convenience. What’s good about it and why should it be used? A lot of people see great potential in podcasting. First of all, it is fun to do. Many find podcasting as a new way of being creative. The format in which podcasts are delivered also helps people increase their audience, and at the same time serve them. News feeds are becoming increasingly popular every day, and many people are now being able to get information about the things they are interested in. Likewise, podcasters can now reach the particular type of audience that they are targeting. This creates a more continual relationship between publishers and their audiences, helping each other flourish in their craft. Podcasting also empowers the podcaster. Usually, someone who has to say something would need to find something or somebody else to help distribute the information. But now, with podcasting, you become your own media. Digital Signage Solutions Help Improve Hotel Employee Productivity

Hotels typically lag behind other industries in terms of technology spending. Capital investment is directed toward adding better amenities or renovating the property in efforts to remain competitive or drive occupancy and ADR. Tech spending is on the rise, however, and one emerging area is digital signage. A digital signage network generally consists of large flat panel LCD or plasma displays that are driven by networked media players, which are customized, application-specific pcs. They can be updated remotely over standard internet protocols and have robust scheduling software which allows hotels a unique new way of reaching out to their guests at the point of contact. The content they deliver is only limited to the creative ability of the designer. As a new communications medium, a digital signage network can be utilized to playback relevant information to the guests (weather, airline info, news, etc.), branding messages, promotional messages, or even third party advertising which can provide a new revenue source for the hotel. Digital signage can also replace outdated electronic reader board systems and improve employee productivity. For many hotels, displaying the meeting schedule information can be quite a chore. Employees input the information in their sales and catering software and print out a copy every time it changes. After it is printed out, they distribute copies to display cases located throughout the property. In other cases, they may have to take the printed sheet over to another computer system and input the data again manually. The meetings or group schedule then gets distributed to outdated television displays and in-room systems. While these methods may “work”, they are outdated and inefficient. It is unnecessary for employees to waste their time inputting meeting information manually. A digital hotel signage solution can interface with the hotel’s existing sales and event management programs, dynamically distributing the meeting schedules to flat panel monitors located throughout the hotel. Employees will no longer be required to spend time updating meeting schedules and they can focus their time and efforts on catering to their guests and groups. Not only will the digital hotel signage network improve hotel employee productivity, but it will also have the capability of displaying attractive, compelling, and dynamic content. When groups enter the property and see digital signs that welcome them personally and include their logo, for example, they will feel at home. In addition, it will reinforce their decision to use that hotel as the host of their events.

Prevent Duplicate Content With Article Checkers

With the rise of technology and Internet-dependence, duplication of content has indeed proliferated. Students have almost unlimited access to many online resources that they could easily print and claim as their own. Marketing campaigns that use duplicate content articles to optimize search engine results. Even blog authors may or may not be aware that some of their posts are actually duplicate content. Some people brush it off like it’s not even a big deal — until they get caught, that is. The Problem with Duplicate Content There’s no doubt that plagiarism is the easiest way to generate content. But why would you even present unoriginal material to your readers when they could easily find it elsewhere? If you really reflect on it, quick-and-easy content isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. A website or blog, for example, won’t rank as well because the material has already been published. You can’t expect search engines, like Google, to simply let it go. In fact, Google expresses a strong opposition toward duplicate content. Google filters out websites with duplicate content by using the Supplemental Index of its database. The GoogleBot crawls websites and looks for similar strings and content among the pages. It then eliminates websites with duplicate content by getting only a fraction from this collection. Let’s say that your website bears duplicate content with a thousand other webpages. The GoogleBot will only pick a small number of these websites to include in its searches while the rest will be delegated to the Supplemental Index. Your site can be pushed way below the pack and might not even appear in the first 10 pages of search results. A site delegated to the bottom of the pack is frustrating but having your site taken down by the owner of your copied content is unfortunate and, to some extent, humiliating. The Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) was passed by the US Congress in October 1998 and got its approval by President Clinton in just weeks. This law generally states that original rights owners are able to file DMCA forms with website hosts to get plagiarized content removed from their servers. Simply put, this means that if you copied your content from someone else’s site, he or she can file a complaint that you violated the DMCA. In turn, your website can be taken down from its server and all your hard work flow down the drain. The Solution to Avoid Duplicate Content As it is, it is imperative that your site must have original content. But how can you be sure when there are probably millions of webmasters or Web publishers out there thinking about writing an article similar to what you are doing? The solution is quite simple: use an article checker. In fact, there are several advantages using an article checker can give you: 1. An article checker helps you write original content. By using an article checker, you avoid committing plagiarism. When you key in a particular keyword for your research, search engines only give you those that rank above the rest. What if there is one website in the last 20 pages or so of the search results that bear striking similarities or even duplicate strings with your article? An article checker crawls Web pages and shows you how many pages bear the same strings. It “checks” your content against other published materials online and, most often than not, even your own sources. After analyzing your material, it displays a percentage result stating how similar — or original — your work is compared to others. 2. An article checker lets you protect your website content. What if you labored day and night to produce original Web content wholly convinced that these carefully optimized articles can boost your page rank? You publish these articles and see a marked increase in your rankings. You’re happy — then overtime, your website does not even appear in the top 50 results. What happened? Someone or some people might be having a field day doing a mishmash of your articles, rewording some parts, then passing them off as their own. If you suspect as much, use an article checker. Since an article checker functions just like a duplicate content checker, it will track websites with contents that are the same as yours. When you find them, then it’s high time you file your own DMCA complaint. 3. An article checker boosts your page rank. There is a simple formula to come out on top of search engines’ results: original and quality optimized content. An article checker can give you this as an indirect result of its two functions as enumerated in the previous sections. With your original content and without your plagiarizing competitors, your website is ready to take its spot at the top.
